This futuristic motorcycle helmet promises to save lives!

It is common to say that the body of a two-wheeler is none other than its driver. Based on this observation, a French start-up has developed a smart motorcycle helmet. In a few days, a crowdfunding campaign will begin with the aim of allowing the production of the first models by the end of 2020.

An extra level of security

According to Road Safety, motorcycles represent only 2% of road traffic in our country. However, in 2017, accidents involving two-wheelers involved 43% of serious injuries and 22% of fatalities . However, a fatal outcome can sometimes be the result of not wearing a helmet or of late treatment by the emergency services. As Neozone explains in an article published on August 23, 2020, the start-up Kosmos Smart Helmets (KSH) is about to launch an all-new smart helmet. The latter promises an additional level of security for bikers.

Let's first mention the presence of an imposing stop light on the back of the helmet. The objective is obviously to clearly warn road users at the rear. In addition, the helmet is equipped with voice assistance directly connected to the driver's smartphone. The goal? Allow the latter – by means of an application – to be aware of the latest information concerning road traffic.

The first helmets by the end of the year

KSH also hinted at a fuller version of the helmet. This includes fall detection technology having been the subject of a patent application. Thus, from the moment the driver is in an abnormal position or suffers an impact, the application attempts to communicate. If the pilot is unable to call for help, the application sends an alert message to five of his relatives . This information concerns the geolocation of the potential accident, but also the driver's blood type and any medical history.

The start-up will launch a crowdfunding campaign in September 2020 on the KissKissBankBank platform. The goal is to produce the first models before the end of this year. For the moment, KSH has mentioned prices between between 600 and 1,200 euros the unit following the models, but nothing seems to be completely stopped.

It is initially a question of a 20,000 euro step to produce the first 200 helmets . However, if the second level is crossed (150,000 euros), KSH will launch the production of accessories such as integrated cameras or even customizable foams. Presented at events such as the CES in Las Vegas (see video below) or the Viva Technology show in Paris, this futuristic helmet could appeal to some bikers.
