The list of Covid-19 symptoms keeps growing

Known for causing a more or less acute respiratory disease, SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) is the cause of symptoms, the list of which is very long. Since the start of the pandemic, doctors have made discovery after discovery. And the fact is that the virus is far from attacking only the lungs.

Many symptoms

While the exact moment of the appearance of Covid-19 in humans is still debated, doctors regularly discover new symptoms. These are often patients with no "classic" symptoms of Covid-19 but yet infected. In an article published on May 10, 2020, The Washington Post listed all of these symptoms. The US daily recalls that on the respiratory part, Covid-19 causes inflammation and obstruction pulmonary alveoli. In some cases, this can degenerate into a pulmonary embolism.

However, the coronavirus can also cause loss of smell and taste . In other words, it is a question of damage to the nervous system. Covid-19 can also cause blood clots to form. In addition, some patients were affected by attacks of vomiting and diarrhea . Sometimes doctors have noted the appearance of a phenomenon called "Covid toes". These are frostbites mainly affecting children, adolescents and young adults. Without seriousness, this kind of phenomenon can also be a symptom of the disease.

Covid-19 is different

Let it be said, the Covid-19 crisis is different from anything we know, so much so that the World Health Organization (WHO ) and governments find themselves more or less helpless. With a balance sheet on May 15, 2020 of nearly 4.5 million cases for approximately 300,000 deaths , it is clear that there has already been much worse. Examples include the Asian flu (1956-1958) or the Hong Kong flu (1968-1970).

However – and this is a first – Covid-19 is forcing the WHO and certain states such as the United States to review their advice and other recommendations . However, this situation is precisely the result of the appearance of new symptoms. Moreover, everyone thought that the coronavirus could not affect the youngest before the first deaths in certain age groups appeared. Researchers around the world believe that there is still a lot that is not known about Covid-19. It is therefore not excluded that new, as yet unknown symptoms may appear.
