In Dubai, the police use smart helmets to take the temperature of the population

Always at the cutting edge of technology, the Emirate of Dubai does not change its habits even during this global Covid-19 pandemic. Law enforcement in the emirate now uses smart helmets. The goal? Take the temperature of people remotely.

A connected helmet for the police

With more than 13,500 cases for 119 deaths , the United Arab Emirates is one of the states most affected by Covid-19 in the Middle East. The emirate of Dubai, always up to date with the latest technological advances, has just equipped its police with new state-of-the-art equipment. According to the Reuters news agency on April 24, 2020, the Dubai police now use connected helmets to take the temperature of the population.

"To effectively combat the Covid-19 pandemic, we have implemented the device in all police stations in Dubai, as well as for all patrol officers whose duty compels them to be on the front lines" said Aly al-Ramsy, a Dubai police officer.

Support in the fight against Covid-19

The headphones in question, developed by the Chinese company KC Wearable, perform quite well. According to a video published on March 27, 2020 (see the end of the article), it can scan 200 people per minute at a distance of five meters. When a person has a temperature that is too high, the helmet generates an alert to warn the police. Thus, the latter is responsible for arresting the person and calling an ambulance. The potential patient will then be taken to the nearest health center. This is a quick and rather effective way isolate people who may be infected with Covid-19.

The Dubai police use this device to filter entry to places deemed densely populated. The Covid-19 has indeed developed more rapidly in the community of migrant workers , unfortunately living in overcrowded housing. In addition, several sectors of the city must in turn respect total confinement . This is the method used in the hope of ending the epidemic.

Finally, the manufacturer KC Wearable has indicated that it has sold a thousand helmets of this kind in the Middle East, Asia and also in Europe. This device can effectively support the fight against Covid-19. However, despite better performance compared to heat guns, the helmet is logically powerless in the case of asymptomatic people.
