Covid-19:a graph to visualize the most exposed professions

Healthcare personnel in direct contact with Covid-19 patients are most at risk from the virus. Obviously, not all trades are at the same level when it comes to risk. Recently, an interactive graph makes it possible to visualize a large number of trades by relating risks and salary levels.

Less than a third of Americans work from home

In a large number of countries, the population is currently in confinement and/or subject to the rules of social distancing. Let’s first give a number:29%. This is the percentage of Americans benefiting from an arrangement allowing them to work from home. For others, it is up to them to get out of their homes and work in essential sectors. However, going out to work is obviously synonymous with exposure to Covid-19. The fact is that not all trades are not equal in the face of risk. In addition, some often fall into a category where the salaries are not very high for the risk involved.

On April 15, 2020, the Visual Capitalist platform published an interactive graph to compare the risks of Covid-19 in the United States , depending on wages. This graph incorporates information from the United States Department of Labor and data from the O*NET database.

Caregivers at the bottom of the ladder

According to the chart, the most exposed trades are:general practitioners, dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, nursing assistants, respiratory therapy technicians and nurses. However, in this list, which can be supplemented by many other health-related functions, wage disparities can range from single to double. Indeed, dentists and general practitioners earn between 150 and 200,000 dollars per year where the others are at less than 100,000 dollars per year, or even less than 50,000 in the case of nursing aides and dental assistants. /P> Covid-19:a graph to visualize the most exposed professions

For non-health professions, let's talk about a difference not negligible regarding the risk incurred by teachers depending on the type of establishment. We should also mention bus drivers, who are more exposed than taxi drivers. Unsurprisingly, the non-healthcare workers most at risk are airline flight attendants.

Finally, on the side of people with little exposure to the risks of Covid-19, we find the Chief executive officers (CEO) and the economists. Others include web developers, hardware engineers, and other graphic designers. These are obviously people who do not have to go out to work.
