What are the different types of CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is one of the cannabinoids (active molecules found in hemp). It is a natural substance that is used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm. Unlike its cousin, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the main active ingredient in marijuana, CBD is not psychoactive.

However, given the popularity of CBD, there are many varieties of products today, especially at Green Owl, and it is easy to get lost. So let's take a look today at the different types of CBD that exist.

You should know that there are currently three main types of CBD products. These are:full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolates.

Full Spectrum CBD

A full-spectrum CBD product is derived from the whole plant material of hemp. This means taking the roots, stems, flowers and leaves, pressing them, pulverizing them or washing them in a washing machine, to extract the oils from the plant. This results in a full-spectrum CBD product of cannabinoids (CBD, cannabigerol aka CBG, cannabinol aka CBN, THC, etc.) and phytochemicals such as chlorophyll and other organic plant matter.

The oil thus obtained will have a strong “hemp” taste and will be dark in color. The latter will also contain 0.3% or less of THC.

Broad Spectrum CBD

A broad-spectrum CBD product is created from the same process as the full-spectrum CBD product, taking the roots, stems, flowers, and leaves. The difference is that after extraction, the THC compound is separated and removed entirely. This still makes it possible to obtain a product with a wide range of cannabinoids, beyond CBD.

It should be noted that many people find themselves in a health situation where they cannot ingest THC, therefore broad-spectrum products are highly appreciated.

A broad-spectrum product will therefore exhibit a full cannabinoid profile which will include CBD, CBG, CBN and CBDV (cannabidivarin), as well as other potential cannabinoids. All this but without any trace of THC.

It is therefore an excellent option for people looking to obtain the benefits of CBD without having to worry about the psychotropic component of the plant.

CBD Isolates

Isolates are… isolates, a single compound isolated from the plant. This is usually done by supercritical CO2 extraction:through this process oils, chlorophyll, plant material and all other compounds are removed, leaving a 99% pure CBD product.

What is interesting with isolates is that it is now possible to find other isolated cannabinoids, such as CBG and CBN.

So many cannabinoids that offer the prospect of health benefits

As more research is done on the hundreds of known cannabinoids, in the future we will be able to specifically target their interactions with the body and all of the health benefits associated with them. Indeed, it should be known that, fundamentally, CBD is not the only cannabinoid that has the potential to provide major health benefits.
