The Benefits of CBD Oil on Weight Loss and Obesity

CBD (cannabidiol) is one of the cannabinoids:these are the 144 active molecules found in hemp (known as cannabis), one of the oldest plants domesticated by humans. Hemp has been exploited for millennia for its industrial use (paper, plastic, building, etc.) but also for its beneficial food intake. Unlike its cousin, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the main active ingredient in cannabis, CBD is not psychoactive. It is possible to obtain CBD products on many trusted sites, including CBD France.

CBD is able to bind to cannabinoid receptors of the endocannabinoid system and modulates different bodily activities. It is not a psychoactive compound and is beneficial in alleviating many health conditions related to stress and anxiety, chronic pain, epilepsy, etc. CBD oil is made by diluting CBD extract with carrier oil.

Studies have shown that CBD oil can also help with obesity and weight loss. Obesity often results from consuming more calories than calories expended through exercise or normal daily activities. Research indicates that in 2019, approximately 37% of adults and 17% of children in the United States were obese. This obesity can in turn lead to many other diseases.

And since CBD cannabis is beneficial in the treatment of many health conditions, scientists naturally became interested in the effect of CBD oil on obesity.

CBD oil to fight obesity

A study conducted by the University of Reading compared the effect of three different cannabinoids, including CBD, on reducing obesity. The results revealed that CBD was able to reduce food consumption in rats. Another study revealed that CBD can regulate the expression of genes and proteins that are involved in obesity.

CBD actually has the power to inhibit the activity of key proteins involved in the generation of fat cells and lipogenesis:the latter stimulates the breakdown of body fat by promoting the conversion of white adipose tissue (connective tissue made up of fat cells , adipocytes, which store fat) into brown adipose tissue (which plays a thermoregulatory role). CBD also stimulates the activity of mitochondria in cells and helps the body burn more calories. The latter can also decrease the formation of new fat cells.

CBD lowers lipogenesis

Lipogenesis is a metabolic process where acetyl-CoA, a metabolic intermediate, is converted into triglycerides for fat storage. Sometimes excess energy is stored in adipose tissue as fat, which can lead to obesity. Recent studies show that the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD can help limit excess lipogenesis and thus prevent obesity.

CBD promotes fat burning

Fat deposition in adipose tissue occurs when caloric intake is high and metabolic rate is low (lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle). Regular consumption of foods high in carbohydrates and fats can cause excess fat to accumulate in adipose tissue and lead to obesity. Therefore, excess fat should be burned regularly. CBD is able to increase the metabolic rate in the body, which helps in the breakdown of excess body fat.
