What are the different types and styles of hearing aids?

Your hearing care professional may recommend one or more types of hearing aids based on factors such as your level of hearing loss, aesthetic preferences, lifestyle needs and budget.

Most BTE and RIC styles come in a range of colors and metallic finishes to match your hair or skin tone. Individual results may vary. Invisibility may also vary depending on your ear anatomy.

It is also necessary to consider the fact that the evolution of technology in the field of hearing aids always makes the devices more discreet and pleasant, so do not hesitate to inquire regularly about the new models available, which could perhaps finally fully meet your requirements.

Invisible-in-the-Channel (IIC)

This custom-fit model is inserted further into the ear canal than other models, so it is completely invisible when worn. IIC hearing aids are designed to be removed daily to promote good ear health. It is particularly suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.

Fully In-Channel (CIC)

CIC hearing aids are custom made to fit completely in the ear canal. Only the end of a small plastic "handle" is visible outside the channel, which is used to insert and remove the device. Suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.

In the channel (ITC)

Like CICs, ITC hearing aids are custom made to fit the ear canal, with a small portion of the device visible. Suitable for mild to mildly severe hearing loss.

In the ear (ITE)

ITE hearing aids are custom made to fit the outer part of the ear. Suitable for mild to severe hearing loss.

Receiver in channel (RIC)

Barely visible when worn, the RIC style is an instrument in which the earpiece, or speaker, sits inside the ear canal. Thin electrical wires are used instead of a plastic acoustic tube, which reduces distortion. RIC hearing aids provide an open and comfortable fit. For mild to moderate hearing loss.

Behind the ear (BTE)

The hearing technology is housed in a housing that rests behind the ear. A clear plastic acoustic tube directs the amplified sound into an earmold or custom mold, which is placed inside the ear canal. Suitable for moderate to severe hearing loss.
