84% of Dutch women feel insecure while exercising

Staring eyes, the comparison with 'fitter' people or the question of being too fat or too thin:all reasons for women to feel insecure during exercise. Because although more than half of the Dutch women (58%) exercise several times a week, 84% indicate that they are insecure during the workout. However, exercising can provide a boost to self-confidence:94% feel more comfortable in their own skin after exercising. This is apparent from a recent study by adidas, conducted among 1,000 women in the Netherlands. The Formotion collection offers women of all shapes and sizes a sports outfit in which they can move freely.

The majority (52%) indicate that they feel watched in the gym, with that figure being considerably higher among women under 34 years of age, in that age group no less than 72% indicate that they suffer from stares. 3 out of 5 women would rather exercise alone than in a group. For two-thirds of Dutch women, the main reason for going to the gym is to improve their fitness, but losing weight (47%) or more energy (46%) also make the top 3. The main reason for not exercising is ' no sense' (57%) and lack of time (45%) and physical complaints (44%) are in the top 3 reasons not to exercise.

Exercise right for more self-confidence
The irony is that the step to the gym or the sports field can make all the difference:half of the Dutch women indicate that if they exercised more, they would feel better about themselves. The research shows that there is still room to support women in taking that step. adidas contributes to this with the 'Watch Us Move' initiative, which revolves around the importance that every woman feels comfortable in her body, and is not limited by insecurities when exercising.
