This is what an eye laser treatment looks like

If you have poor eyesight and wear glasses or contact lenses, you may have thought about getting your eyes lasered. This technique has become increasingly popular in recent years as a way to correct vision. But what exactly does laser eye surgery entail and what is involved? We list it here!

What is laser eye surgery?
With laser eye surgery, your eyes are, as the name suggests, corrected by means of a laser. The surgery usually involves reshaping the cornea – the transparent layer that sits at the front of the eye. Different methods can be used, but they all have a goal:to sharpen vision so that you are no longer dependent on glasses or contact lenses.

What should you pay attention to?
The first thing to do is to verify that your preferred ophthalmologists or clinic are properly certified and registered. They must meet the Dutch quality requirements and adhere to the guidelines. If they have a ZKN quality mark from the Association of Independent Clinics in the Netherlands, it means that they have passed a quality examination by the NOG professional group. What are the risks?
The risk of complications is very small these days. Serious complications are very rare. The greatest risk for complications is outdated equipment or the lack of experience of the ophthalmologist.

Laser eyes:How does it work?
First you will receive an extensive preliminary examination to determine whether your eyes are suitable for treatment. And which eye laser technique is possible for you. You will then receive personal advice and answers to all your questions, so that you know where you stand. Because not everyone is suitable for laser eye surgery.

What else should you keep in mind?
You have to take into account that there is a recovery time after the treatment. You cannot immediately do everything such as work and sports. And there are also after-treatments. So plan the operation well!
