How do you take good care of your baby's skin?

Taking good care of your baby's skin is very important to optimally protect your baby's skin. Your baby's skin is still very fragile. That is why it is important to choose products with care. Look for products that support and care for the baby's skin. Natural skin care products, for example, are a smart choice. My niece Yara uses Weleda's natural products for her girl. Because of her positive experiences with the pregnancy oil of this brand, the choice for these baby products was easy. She also wants to use natural care products for her baby, so the Calendula baby line is a logical choice.

Take care of your baby's baby skin in a good way

Did you know that a baby's skin is up to 5x thinner than our skin? It is therefore a smart choice to go for mild baby products that support the natural protective layer of the skin and supplement it where necessary. Therefore, do not rely on a care product because of the nice smell it has. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the ingredients that are in the product in question before making your choice. Only then will you know whether you have a product that really contributes to the health of your child.

In addition to the importance of using good natural products, there are a number of things you can pay more attention to when taking care of your little one:

  1. Avoid skincare products with added synthetic perfume. More and more babies are allergic to this.
  2. A bath every day is not good for baby's skin at all, three times a week is more than enough. On the other days you can freshen up with a hydrophilic washcloth, some water and possibly a shampoo that does not sting the eyes.
  3. Pay attention to the temperature of the bath water, too hot water is not good for your baby and can also dry out the skin further.
  4. Avoid products that may contain harmful substances such as SLS/SLES, mineral oils, phthalates and other endocrine disruptors.
  5. A hydrophilic diaper is great for drying baby's delicate skin. Do not forget to dry the skin folds well.
  6. Only use items specifically designed for baby skin care, not adult products.
  7. Do not use any baby skin care products that foam; these can dry out the baby's skin. For example, it is smarter to use a nice baby oil than a foaming shower gel.

Which products are useful for your baby on the changing table or in the bathroom?

There are a number of skin care products that are indispensable in baby's trousseau. Weleda has all the indispensable products in its caring Calendula baby line, so that you can easily provide good care for your baby's skin. These natural baby care products have been developed with midwives and pharmacists and can be used from day one.

My tips for a layette are a nice shampoo &shower cream (that doesn't sting the eyes!) and a good bottom balm. A nourishing oil that you can use to nourish the baby's skin before dressing is also indispensable. You can also use this for a baby massage. You can also add a nice bath milk to your range to take extra care of the baby's skin while bathing. Don't forget the sunscreen on sunny days.

If you want to take care of your baby's skin even more extensively, the Weleda baby line offers even more mild products, such as a fine rich balm for the cold and bleak days. There's nothing better than rubbing your baby's face well before you go outside. I also used to like using talcum powder. An advice from my mother, who already used it with me. Weleda Baby Powder absorbs moisture and prevents irritation. Very nice, for example, for babies with sensitive skin on the bottom. Lightly powder before putting on a new diaper and you will prevent redness and irritation. If necessary, you can also use Calendula Billen Balm for red irritated buttocks. The zinc oxide in that balm ensures a faster recovery and good care and protection of the baby's skin.

Only addition in my own 'baby stash' was a product for the bath to really relax. Similar to the Welterustenbad of Weleda. After a day full of impressions, this spicy bath milk is wonderful to add to the baby bath. Not only for the baby, but also for yourself. The calming scent of thyme, mountain pine and lavender immediately soothes and makes the bathing ritual a wonderful moment for two. Have you had a nice bath? Then don't forget to brush your teeth with a toothpaste without fluoride.

Besides the fine use and the natural ingredients, the products that Yara uses have another plus. They are friendly to our planet, kind to animals and in many cases even completely vegan.
