The initial symptoms of COVID-19 are different for women than for men. This is apparent from an English study published this month.
The researchers examined a total of 18 different symptoms. The main early symptoms that may indicate COVID-19 are loss of smell and taste, chest pain, a persistent cough, abdominal pain, foot blisters, sore eyes and unusual muscle aches.
Women appear to have different initial symptoms than men, it turns out. In women, loss of smell, chest pain and a persistent cough were the most common. In men this was more often shortness of breath, fatigue and chills.
The researchers found a difference not only between the sexes, but also in age. Loss of smell and taste did not occur above the age of eighty and very little above the age of sixty. Diarrhea, on the other hand, was more common in the over-sixties and eighties.
The researchers focused only on the first symptoms of COVID-19, not on its further course.
