The Enschede company OneThird has devised a scanner that can see exactly how long fruit will remain good. In this way, retailers or growers know better whether they should discount the product in advance or whether it is better to process it in a smoothie. The scanner also prevents you from buying a bowl of fruit that will go moldy in no time. Or an avocado that is far from ripe. The scanner is currently still under development.
In the future, consumers will also be able to use the scanner, because the technology will also be available for smartphones. You can compare the scanner with an X-ray machine. He makes a scan of the inside of the fruit with infrared light. Using a database, he can see exactly how fresh the fruit is at that moment.
