Researchers warn:check these places for tick bites

RIVM and the University of Wageningen have investigated the tick bite reports from 2019 and 2020. This shows that ticks mainly bite here.

Check carefully

In children, ticks mainly bite on the neck and head. This is shown by research by the RIVM and the University of Wageningen. 32 percent of all tick bites in children were found in the head or neck. In adults it was only 3 percent. Adults are mainly bitten on the legs. The research shows that bites around the pubic area are not as common. 7 percent in children and 9 percent in adults. Still, the researchers warn to check there too, because these bites are often discovered later.

Lyme disease

The research was done on the basis ofSignradar.nl. About 8,500 tick bites were reported there last year. Most reports came from Gelderland and Utrecht, the least from Zeeland and Flevoland. A tick bite can cause Lyme disease. More than 1 million people are bitten by a tick every year. About 2 in 100 people will subsequently develop Lyme disease.
