Babies get a lot of plastic in their bodies because of plastic drinking bottles

Researchers warn that babies who receive their food in a plastic bottle, do get a lot of plastic in their bodies. They believe that the guidelines for plastic baby bottles should be adjusted.

Babies fed with a plastic bottle ingest millions of microplastics every day. For example, research at the University of Dublin shows that the warmer the water in which the powdered milk is dissolved, the more microplastics are released.

Unclear what effect is

The effect and whether there are adverse effects on the health of babies is not yet clear and needs to be further investigated.

Advice for parents

The researchers advise parents to clean the plastic drinking bottles with cold sterilized water and then rinse them at least three times. The powdered milk is better prepared in a container that is not plastic and then put it in a bottle when it has cooled. It is also better not to heat the food in the microwave and to shake the bottle. You can also opt for glass drinking bottles.
