Wow, so many bones a person has

The human body can never cease to amaze you. Take a guess, how many bones do you think we have? And um, where does that 'cracking' of your bones actually come from?

It's one of those things you don't think about every day. Together, our bones form a beautiful, ingenious system that keeps us mobile and gives us posture. Have you ever broken one? Oh well, there are still…. about!

206

Yes really! An adult human has 206 bones. Due to some deviations or simply anatomical differences, it does not vary from person to person, so you can miss a vertebra (also counts) or have one extra. A nice bonus fact is that a baby even has 350 bones. As a child grows, various bones eventually grow together. And so you end up with 206.

Snap!

Do you ever hear your bones snap or crack? Or do your neck hairs stand on end when you hear this from someone else? What you're hearing isn't actually your bones cracking. A kind of cable that you temporarily pull tight and that produces a sound.
