A trembling eyelid

A twitching eyelid is annoying. You want to get rid of the feeling of the small spastic vibrations as soon as possible.

What can you do about it?

Unfortunately, there is no cure to stop a twitching eyelid immediately. With the following tips you can try to stop the shaking, or prevent it from happening again in no time.

  • Relax
Two of the possible causes of a twitching eyelid are stress and fatigue. So make sure you get enough sleep and plan time to relax.
  • Be kind to your eyes
Do you sit in front of a screen, such as the computer or television, all day? Then give your eyes plenty of rest. How? We give tips.
  • Eat enough magnesium
A magnesium deficiency could also play a role in a twitching eyelid, although there is no evidence for this. How do you know if you have a magnesium deficiency?
  • Drink less caffeine and/or alcohol
Drink fewer or no drinks with these ingredients.
  • Get your eyes measured
If your eyes have deteriorated, you need to put in more effort to see properly. Eye strain can cause eye spasms.
