People in these professions have the most sleep deprivation, according to research

Are you getting enough sleep with the work you do? We have listed the professions with the most sleep deprivation and the least sleep deprivation for you.

Bad sleepers

A good night's sleep is extremely important, but there are a lot of factors that can get in the way of a good night's sleep. Think of what you eat, when you last drank coffee, how much you exercised and – of course – your work. A 2018 study shows that the average amount of sleep you get per night strongly depends on your job. Nearly 5,000 participants were asked about their sleep patterns:whether they were getting enough sleep and how much sleep they were getting per night. This showed a number of sectors/professions in which people were severely sleep deprived, namely:

1. Care – 4 hours and 15 minutes
2. National Security – 4 hours and 30 minutes
3. Teachers – 4 hours and 35 minutes
4. Journalists – 4 hours and 50 minutes
5. Hospitality – 5 hours

Good night's sleep

Of course, the research also showed that there are sectors/professions where on average people slept the most hours per night and therefore do not suffer from sleep deprivation, namely:

1. Hair and beauty – 9 hours and 40 minutes
2. Telemarketers – 8 hours and 45 minutes
3. Insurance – 8 hours and 20 minutes
4. Retail – 8 hours and 15 minutes
5. Build – 8 hours and 10 minutes

Also, participants indicated that stress (44%) and high caffeine consumption (19%) were the most common factors keeping them up at night, with more than half believing they had a health problem because of their sleep patterns.
