This sound is the best way to wake up

What sound do you wake up to? With music or such a loud alarm tone? And which sound wakes you up better?

In a small-scale Australian study, 50 people were asked what type of alarm clock woke them up and rated how refreshed or sleepy they woke up. It turns out that waking up to nice music is the most pleasant way to wake up and you are more alert than when you are awakened by a loud barrel.

Researcher Stuart McFarlane:"You would think that a loud alarm tone improves your alertness in the morning, but surprisingly, it is the melodies that ensure that you get up less groggy."

Consequences of waking up sleep-drunk

According to McFarlane, waking up sleepy has an impact on your work performance. For example, they can be less up to 4 hours after waking up than when you wake up alert. “This is especially important for people who have to work in dangerous situations shortly after the alarm goes off, such as firefighters, EMS and pilots.” According to the researcher, the chance that serious accidents will happen is greater if you wake up intoxicated.
