Why do I bruise so easily?

Sometimes you know exactly after which collision with which table corner you suffered a bruise. Other times they seem to appear out of nowhere.

How do bruises occur?

A bruise is a bruise under the skin. A blood vessel has burst. Because the skin is still intact and the blood is accumulating underneath, it creates a blue color. How exactly does a bruise arise?

One suffers from bruises faster than the other. And sometimes you get it faster as you get older. Here are five reasons why you bruise easily:

1. You are getting older

As we age, our skin gets thinner, as does the tissue just under the skin. As a result, the blood vessels receive less protection, so that you bruise more quickly when you hit.

2. It is a side effect of your medicines

Some medicines make your skin thinner, making you bruise more easily. Check the package leaflet of your medicines or bruises to see if thinner skin can be one of the side effects.

3. You have weak blood vessels and therefore bruise easily

It is genetically determined how strong your blood vessels are. If you don't have such strong blood vessels, you will bruise more quickly after a gentle bump.

4. You have a vitamin deficiency

A lack of vitamin C can make you bruise more easily. Vitamin B12 is also important in the prevention of bruising. Vitamin K is also important for blood clotting. If your blood clotting is too slow, bruising can result. A good and varied diet is important.

5. You are clumsy

The fact that you are a bumbling can contribute to the number of bruises on your body.

6. You are sick

Anemia, liver disease, and leukemia all have bruises among the symptoms. Do not immediately panic if you have a bruise of which you do not know the cause. When in doubt, visit your doctor.
