5 causes of a lot of thirst

If you've just worked out, or if you haven't had anything to drink for half the afternoon, it's obvious why you're thirsty. If you continue to feel thirsty more than usual for inexplicable reasons, then it is time to listen extra carefully to your body.

These are some causes of thirst:

1. A lot of thirst in diabetes

Diabetes can dehydrate your body, especially if you don't know you have diabetes yet. If your blood sugar is too high, your body tries to lower that life by getting it out of your body through urine. Frequent urination leads to increased thirst, which means you drink more and have to go to the toilet even more often.

2. Your eating habits

Some ingredients make you unexpectedly thirsty. Examples include asparagus, celery, lemon, beets and ginger. You can compensate a bit by eating more moisture-rich food. Cucumber, lettuce, radishes and oatmeal soaked in water, for example. Your body can easily confuse the signals of hunger and thirst. This is how you recognize the difference between hunger and thirst.

3. A dry mouth

Dry mouth is easily confused with thirst. Sometimes that is the case, but a dry mouth can also have another reason. For example, a dry mouth can be a side effect of a medication you are taking.

4. Your period

The hormones released during your period can make you more thirsty.

5. Something is disrupted in your body

There are several conditions that can cause you to feel more thirsty than usual. If in doubt, consult your doctor.
