Oh dear! How little self-confidence we have!

Oh dear! How little self-confidence we have!

Sometimes it seems that others are bursting with self-confidence, while yours is nowhere to be found. For example, Belgian research shows that women give themselves a very low score when it comes to their self-confidence.

A survey by Goed Geluk in collaboration with market research agency Profacts among more than 4,000 women between the ages of 18 and 70 shows that women give themselves an average of 6.2 when it comes to their self-confidence.

Age

Age is especially important. For example, women between the ages of 18 and 14 give themselves an average of 5.7. Women between 55 and 70 are slightly more confident. They give themselves a 6.8.

What can boost self-confidence?

There are a number of things that can give your self-confidence a big boost. For example, those in a relationship give themselves a 7.5. When we are surrounded by friends, it also radiates in your self-confidence with a 7.1.

Children are also good for your self-confidence. For example, mothers give themselves a 7.2. It also appears that the older the children, the more self-confident a woman has.

Furthermore, wearing beautiful lingerie also helps a lot. For example, no less than 65 percent of women feel better about themselves by wearing beautiful lingerie.

Weight

The weight is not good for self-confidence. The higher the BMI, the lower the score. Women who are obese give themselves a 5.9. Overweight women who play sports rate themselves even lower with a 5.4.

Striking results

More striking results from the study:

– More than 20 percent do not go to the beach because of insecurity about her body.

  • The older women get, the higher the score.
  • 79 percent do not recognize themselves in the women who are in commercials.
  • 74 percent want to see more diversity; women with a curvier, a dark skin color, a physical or mental disability or women of age.
  • 84 percent have sometimes canceled an activity or left something else due to a lack of self-confidence.
