Why you fart more often before and during your period

Have you ever noticed that you fart more often before and during your period? You're not the only one. Here it comes through.

Research

Canadian research shows that women are more likely to experience stomach pain before or during their period. And then it's not just about abdominal pain, but also about complaints such as diarrhea and flatulence.

How come?

As you approach ovulation, about 13 to 14 days before your period, the amount of the hormone progesterone increases to prepare your body for a possible pregnancy. This hormone is known for making many processes in your body slower than normal. This hormone can cause constipation, morning sickness and burping.

If you don't get pregnant, but your period, the 'floodgates' are opened and there is a good chance that you will get diarrhea when your period starts, for example. Everything that was 'held' in your body by progesterone comes loose, as it were.

Can you prevent it?

If you really suffer from wind, you can try to adjust your diet accordingly. Eat easily digestible food just before your period and avoid, for example, beans or cauliflower.
