Is it bad to keep a tampon in for a long time?

Can you safely wear a tampon for longer on days with lighter periods?

You should always change a tampon every four to eight hours. This depends on how heavy your period is. If you are bleeding heavily, you may only be able to wear a tampon for three hours. On the lighter days this is six to eight hours. Do you wear a tampon longer? Then you run the risk of infections or of Toxic Shock Syndrome, in which a bacterium releases poison that is absorbed into the body through the bloodstream. This disease is also called tampon disease and can be dangerous.

Change your tampon regularly during light menstruation

So it may seem easy on light days to change your tampon less often, but it makes sense to keep it on for between four and eight hours.
