What is intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting, or 'intermittent fasting', is a way of eating in which you eat little or no food for a period of 12 to 18 hours or for a day.

You can do this daily or several times a week. During the fast you take nothing but water, tea or coffee. With intermittent fasting you use a sophisticated strategy to skip meals, in combination with healthy choices if you do eat.

You can perform intermittent fasting with different schedules. For example, the 16/8 method:eat nothing for 16 hours and then eat normally for 8 hours. The 5/2 method:eat normal food for 5 days and 500 calories for 2 days. Or the 6/1 method, where you don't eat at all 1 day a week and healthy normal portions the rest of the week.
