Review:Fitbit Versa

The new Fitbit is not only an activity tracker, but also a smartwatch. Santé's Shirley has been able to test a Fitbit Versa for the past three weeks and shares her experience.

The looks The Fitbit Versa looks surprisingly feminine with its rounded corners. To emphasize the feminine extra, I opted for the rose gold version. The Fitbit with rose gold bezel around the screen comes standard with a peach-colored strap. I opted for a light gray leather strap as an additional accessory. My wrists are quite narrow, yet the screen is not too big and the strap in size S could be even tighter.

Time to test
Setting up the Fitbit Versa is done in no time. You install the app, fill in some information about yourself and connect it to your Fitbit in no time. On the screen of the Fitbit you can access the most important information of the day, including the number of steps taken, how many calories you have burned and your current heart rate. You can find more details in the app. There is much more to discover about my activity than I expected. You can very easily see the data of recent times, so that you can discover patterns.

Tracking sports
An important function of an activity tracker is of course keeping track of your training and movement. You can start a workout in the Fitbit app, or from the screen. Handy:after ten minutes of walking or cycling, the Fitbit almost always recognizes the activity on its own. If all goes well, the Fitbit will eventually become smarter about this and it will even recognize my Pilates class by certain movements I make. The Fitbit Versa is waterproof and can even track your swimming workout.

Daily exercise
Fitbit not only helps you track, but also helps you be and stay active throughout the day. For example, he keeps an eye on whether you take 250 steps every hour during working hours, with an office job that is sometimes quite a challenge for me. Have you not taken 250 steps? Then you will receive a notification ten minutes before the end of the hour that indicates how many steps you still have to take. A little extra motivation. It regularly ensures that I still make an extra cup of tea.

Smartwatch
Not only can you track your activity with the Versa, it's also a smartwatch. When connected to your phone, you can read your messages, reminders from your digital calendar and notifications from apps on it, you can see when you get a call and there are apps available for the Fitbit. For example, download a calendar, a map, games or a Pomodoro timer. You can customize the clock. A funny detail is Fitbit Labs, where you have a pet on your screen. You have to move enough to feed him. If you don't, your cat will run away. Tamagotchi all over again!

Review:Fitbit Versa Sleep tracker
One of the most interesting features I think is the sleep tracker. The Fitbit automatically keeps track of your night's sleep. The next morning you can see how long and how well you slept, the different sleep stages are shown in a graph. Waking up is very relaxed with the Fitbit. At the set time, it starts to vibrate subtly on your wrist. The first few days I set my alarm clock just to be sure, but that turns out not to be necessary:if you don't become active, the Fitbit will vibrate again after a few minutes, but a little louder. Waking up much nicer than with the sound of an alarm clock.

I rarely get eight hours of sleep. I spent the night without sleep on the plane and the next day I was jet lagged.>

What did my Fitbit teach me?
Fitbit confronts me with the facts:my condition could be better. For the first few days, my Fitbit rated me "poor." When he knew me a little longer, that changed to 'fair to average'. So there is still a lot of improvement to be made. As you can see in the graph, my sleeping pattern can also be a lot better. I rarely get the eight hours of sleep a night, when I actually need those eight hours. I'm curious if I can improve my habits in the near future with the help of my Fitbit.

The Fitbit Versa is for sale for €199.95, including via Bol.com.
