How long have you been in the kitchen?

On average, we spend 28 minutes in the kitchen in the Netherlands.

Time is getting shorter
In 1997, we spent an average of 38 minutes in the kitchen preparing dinner and our grandmothers spent two hours cooking. So the time we spend in the kitchen is rapidly decreasing. According to NRC, we don't necessarily want to spend less time in the kitchen, it's mainly because we can.

As long as it's fast
We like tasty and healthy, but it has to be fast. If a recipe promises to be ready in 15 minutes, it must be on the table in 15 minutes. Convenience is important.

We could have moved on to powders. No more cooking, but getting all the nutrients through a shake. Nevertheless, the largest part of the grocery budget is still spent on food that we prepare ourselves.

Fresh packs are popular Fortunately, it is also becoming easier for us. You can order meal boxes and you will find a shelf full of fresh packages at most supermarkets. The ready-made meals must be healthier and the supermarkets are also responding to this.

Starting this week you will find 100 new fresh products on the shelf at Albert Heijn, 33 new salads and 3 new soups. The amount of vegetables in the meal will be stated on the packaging.
