After his wife gave birth, a neuroscientist decided to find out whether holding his wife's hand would have helped. He collected 23 couples for his research. The women were exposed to pain in different situations:while alone, in the same room as their partner, while holding their partners hand and while holding a stranger's hand.
Does squeezing his hand make any sense
Women who held their partner's hand reported less pain. Holding a stranger's hand had no effect, which was to be expected, but even the presence of the partner in the room had no effect.
