The influence of your work on your fertility

From the moment you want to get pregnant, you may start to worry more about what can improve your fertility and what can't.

The Massachusetts General Hospital surveyed 500 women who underwent fertility treatment between 2004 and 2015. They looked at possible biological explanations for their reduced fertility. One of the factors that was investigated was working conditions.

The researchers found a connection:women who often had to lift or move heavy things for their work had fewer egg sacs (in which eggs mature) than women who did not lift heavy things. Working evening or night shifts also seemed to have an effect on the number of egg sacs. This is the first study to show this result, so more extensive research is needed before the hospital can say more about it.
