You use up to 30,000 more calories per year if you stand for three extra hours a day. According to Mike Loosemore of London's University College Hospital, standing burns almost a calorie per minute. This is over four kilos per year.

Some tips for standing more

  1. Ask your boss for a desk that you can stand behind and alternate sitting and standing.
  2. Walk to someone more often instead of emailing or calling.
  3. Do you have to make a phone call? Walk back and forth while calling.
  4. From now on, do as many things as possible that you do while standing.
  5. Do not sit at your desk during the lunch break and do not plop down in the cafeteria, but go outside for a walk.
