Superfood:coconut

Coconut water as a sports drink, coconut in your oatmeal… And plenty of reasons to eat (and drink) this superfood.

About the coconut
A coconut is not a nut, but a drupe of the coconut palm. The fruit consists of four layers:brown coconut fiber, the skin, pulp and water. You can eat coconut as it is or process it into coconut milk, coconut fat or coconut flour.

Some health benefits
The fats from coconut are healthy and do not cause your blood sugar level to peak. Coconut water is a beneficial thirst quencher and the coconut fruit is also a real beauty booster.

Coconut water and coconut milk:don't confuse
Don't confuse coconut water with coconut milk. Coconut water is the moisture from the coconut. Coconut milk is made by pulverizing the pulp (coconut) into a liquid.

Ripe or rotten?
A coconut has three eyes with which it hung from the tree. Check whether these round spots are soft or maybe already open. In that case, choose another coconut, chances are it is spoiled. You can also find out if it is ripe by shaking a coconut back and forth. You will then hear the coconut water sloshing quite a bit.

Did you know that… coconut water is a good sports drink?
