Reading online makes us read long texts worse

If you read a lot of articles online, it can cause your reading skills for longer texts to deteriorate.

Online articles are often shorter, so we scan them. Maryanne Wolf, an expert on reading, argues that our brains are constantly adapting to new habits. When we read a lot of short texts, or actually scan them, we get used to that way of reading and we also approach long texts as short texts. The meaning of a long text will therefore pass us by more quickly.
