Always start cooling as soon as possible. It is not without reason that the golden rule is:'water, the rest comes later'. Preferably do this with lukewarm, gently flowing (tap) water and do it for about ten minutes. Cooling for too long can cause hypothermia. While cooling, remove the clothing, unless it is stuck to the wound.

Loosening clothing can cause serious injuries. Do not put anything on the wound, but cover it with a clean cloth or sterile bandage. Notify the doctor of any affected skin, blisters or burns caused by a chemical or electricity.
