Alzheimer s research

Unfortunately, dementia is on its way to becoming the number 1 disease. 1 in 5 Dutch people develop dementia. Among women, this number is even higher:1 in 3 women will develop dementia. But healthy people also have to deal with it, because their loved ones are affected by dementia.

Breakthrough
A quarter of a million people suffer from dementia and if nothing changes, that number will double by 2040. The good news is that scientists are convinced that within 20 years there will be a breakthrough in the prevention or cure of Alzheimer's, the most common form of dementia.

Research and money
Before that happens, research is needed, and therefore money. That is why Alzheimer Nederland has started a campaign. This campaign focuses on the loss of music memories. 'These are cold figures that provide solid information, but sometimes ignore the emotion of this disease:the inevitable moment when you no longer recognize anyone and you don't remember anything,' says Gea Broekema-Procházka, director of Alzheimer Nederland. “That emotional element of the disease deserves more attention and is the reason for Alzheimer Nederland to start this national campaign. A campaign that focuses on something that we as healthy people still take for granted:unforgettable music memories.'

Music Memories on TV
On October 19 (at 11 p.m.) and October 26 (at 11:25 p.m.) you can watch the Music Memories program on SBS 6. Jeroen van der Boom receives special guests and brings up moving stories thanks to performances by various artists.
