Volunteering in exchange for care

Volunteering in exchange for care

In the future, the elderly, sick and disabled may be asked to volunteer in exchange for care. What do you think?

New law
This is what the cabinet proposes in a draft for the Social Support Act 2015. It could be a solution to loneliness. For example, the elderly can read to children with a language deficiency and a retired bookkeeper could volunteer for municipal debt counseling. However, volunteering should not be compulsory.

The municipality determines
Every municipality will determine how much help someone is entitled to. For example, they can determine how much money a person in need of help must contribute and how much support can be expected from friends and family. That means that if you need help, you must first turn to your family, friends and neighbors. Is that not enough? Then the government comes into the picture.

What do you think of this law?
