Similarities Between Anorexia and Autism

Girls with anorexia are more likely to exhibit behaviors associated with autism. They are more concerned with details, think more systematically and have less empathy.

These things are characteristic of autists. Research from the University of Cambridge found that girls with anorexia are five times more likely to have autistic traits compared to teens without anorexia.

Specialists may be able to use this new insight to develop new treatment plans. Anorexia is seen as purely an eating disorder, but this research shows that the mind of someone with anorexia may have a lot in common with the mind of someone with autism.
