How do you treat a blister?

Because of pumps that don't fit that well or because of abrasive sports shoes, sometimes you can't avoid a blister. What is the best way to treat a blister?

Blisters are caused by friction. Your body produces extra fluid during friction, this accumulates and this is how the blister develops.

pierce or cover?
If you have a blister, you can puncture it or cover it with a special plaster. What's best? Opinions are divided on this. The most important thing is to keep the blister clean so it doesn't get infected.

When in doubt
You can carefully puncture a large blister with a lot of fluid in it with a sterile needle, so that the fluid gets out. Leave the piece of skin on, this acts as natural protection. A small blister is often less bothersome, then covering with a blister plaster or gauze is sufficient. It is best to leave a blood blister or a burn blister alone.

Open blister
Sometimes you have been living with a blister for too long and your blister is already broken. Make sure that no dirt gets into the wound and if necessary wear a plaster, so that your skin does not break further in other shoes.
