More weight means more expensive plane ticket

The fact that you will soon be wearing swimwear again is an incentive for some people to lose the last few kilos. But if it were up to these Norwegian researchers, a few kilos less could also mean a cheaper plane ticket.

According to the Norwegian researcher Bharat P. Bhatta, it is very logical to calculate the price of a ticket by weight. More weight leads to more fuel consumption, higher CO² emissions and therefore more costs.

Three options
To make the price of a plane ticket dependent on the weight, the researcher has made three proposals.

1. Total weight
The total weight of the traveler and his or her suitcase determines the price of the ticket.

2. Base rate
The second option is a basic rate. If you are heavier than a certain weight, additional costs may be added. Lighter persons would receive a discount.

3. Average weight

Travelers with an average weight pay the same price. You pay more or less if your luggage exceeds a certain limit.

Which option do you think is best:1, 2 or 3?
