Fewer smokers in the Netherlands

The number of smokers in 2011 has decreased significantly. Only a quarter of the Dutch population over the age of 15 smokes.

Five years ago, about 28.6 percent of Dutch people over the age of 15 smoked, in the second quarter of 2011, that figure was just 24.3 percent .

Quit smoking
Every week, the smoking behavior of the Dutch is investigated by Stichting Volksgezondheid en Smoking (Stivoro). The reason that so many Dutch people quit is the attention for stopping smoking and the reimbursement of resources that support this, Lies van Gennip, director of Stivoro, informed Nu.nl.
