We warned earlier that the flu virus is lurking again. The virus inhibitor Tamiflu is therefore again taken out of the doctor's cabinet. But beware:do not buy this preventive medicine against the swine flu on the internet.
Be careful with flu inhibitors
Pharmacist organization KNMP warns all Dutch people to not buy antiviral drugs (flu inhibitors) via the internet † The pharmacists also advise to be cautious with the use of antiviral drugs for fear of the swine flu † It makes no sense to take antiviral drugs preventively.
In fact, when you take the flu inhibitors preventively used, the chance is actually greater that the drug will eventually work less well if you do get that flu form. The virus can even become resistant to the inhibitors, and then you are even further away from home.
Remarkable
Even if you have contracted the swine flu, the use of antivirals according to the pharmacists' organization not useful † The use reduces the duration of illness from an average of seven to five days. So not much difference.
But especially buying the antivirals on the internet is a sin. Not only can the medicines available via the internet of poor quality they also often have a way too high price tag † So don't.
