Live longer with firm handshake

A firm handshake not only radiates confidence, it also makes you live longer.

Scientists at the University of London found that a firm handshake can be a measure of longevity. Those who suffer from a 'limp hand' have up to 67 percent more likely to die prematurely † But people who walk more slowly are also three times more likely to die earlier. People who are slow to get out of their seats are even twice as likely to die early.

More than 10,000 people around the age of sixty were analyzed in the study. Attention was paid to the balance, the strength of the handle and whether the subjects could get out of a chair easily. This is to make a connection between the physical state of a person and an early death.

The researchers explain that diseases of old age certainly have an influence on the poor condition of the over-sixties. But, they emphasize, also young people in good health, but with a limp handshake, seem to die earlier. So give a firm handshake.
